Indian national charged after seizure of 127 kgs of cannabis

Reading Time: 2 minutes

An Indian national from Western Sydney is set to appear in local court today, after he was found driving a truck that contained 127 kilograms of cannabis. He now faces charges of supplying prohibited drug (large commercial quantity), possessing unauthorised pistol, possessing prohibited plant and dealing with property proceeds of crime.

According to NSW Police, this was part of ongoing operations into drug trafficking in NSW.

The 25-year-old man was arrested after Strike Force Raptor, with assistance from Traffic and Highway Patrol Command, conducted the inspection of the truck at the heavy vehicle weigh station at Marulan. The cannabis was kept in vacuum-sealed bags and divided between eight boxes, with a street value of approximately $3 million.

Three phones were seized at the scene, with a gel blaster, steroids, and cash being seized for forensic examination after a subsequent search warrant.

He was named by a south-east NSW media outlet as Azadbir Singh.

His visa status is now being looked into by the Department of Home Affairs.

“If people who are not citizens of our country want to engage in serious criminal activity, then we certainly have linkages into Home Affairs,” Strike Force Raptor Commander Jason Weinstein told 2GB’s Ray Hadley.
