Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s 550th birth anniversary
Tue 12 Nov For the first time this year, Sikhism’s 550th anniversary will be marked across Melbourne thanks to a Victorian Government initiative, in which major monuments will be lit up on 12 November in the faith’s saffron colour, including Bolte Bridge, the Arts Centre, Melbourne Museum and AAMI Stadium.
Other events include:
The Humanity Walk in the Melbourne CBD, with 20,000 Victorians expected to attend

  • Geelong’s Humanity Walk, with participants walking from Rippleside Park to Steampacket Gardens
  • The Multicultural Community Parade to be held in Bendigo on 27 October
  • The Guru Nanak Sikh Society Shepparton for celebrations running from 8 to 13 November
  • Punjabi Sath Melbourne, which will run the Guru Nanak Birthday Literary Function
  • The Travels and Teachings of Guru Nanak Art Exhibition at RMIT University

Sun 10 Nov (10.00am – 4.00pm) Sikh Youth Australia together with Sikh Sangat and Sikh organisations of Sydney, present the Divine Steps Festival, an event celebrating Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s 550th Birth Anniversary and his universal message.
The Divine Steps Festival looks to share and celebrate the essence of Guru Nanak Dev Ji by bringing together Sikhs and other faith groups in a spiritual festival honouring his life and Universal message.
The Festival will feature:

  • Divine Music Concert of spiritual music and performances from Sikh (Dya Singh World Music group) and other faith traditions.
  • Langar (free vegetarian food and drinks)
  • A showcase of the history of Guru Nanak Dev Ji and the Sikh faith
