Cargo (Netflix)
A science fiction film by producers like Navin Shetty, Shlok Sharma, Anurag Kashyap and Vikramaditya Motwane (the latter two having produced the hugely successful Sacred Games), Cargo is another film that was delayed due to the pandemic. Set on a space ship where a demon works for the ‘Post Death Transition Services’, this sci-fi meets dark comedy has been considered a “tribute to the mythologies of the subcontinent”, according to its creators. It stars Vikrant Massey and Shweta Tripathi (of Raat Akeli Hai and Masaan) in the lead roles.
Cargo begins streaming on 9 September.
JL 50 (SonyLIV)
Starring Abhay Deo as a CBI officer investigating a plane crash in West Bengal, a flight that disappeared over 30 years ago, JL 50 is full of power-packed performances and thrilling sequences. It also marks a new high for Indian OTT platforms exploring different types of genres – and successfully too! For those less-inclined to sci-fi elements, rest assured the show relies more on intrigue than science and logistics.

London Confidential (Zee5)
Perhaps building on the anti-Chinese sentiments growing in the subcontinent, this upcoming film is about RAW agents in London who are gathering evidence of China’s role in the spread of a pandemic. Before they can do that, however, they must track down a traitor in their midst. London Confidential stars Mouni Roy, Kulraj Randhawa, and Purab Kohli in lead roles.

Hostages (Disney+Hotstar)
This crime thriller series is the official adaptation of an Israeli series of the same name, promising thrills and fast pace unlike any other. Ronit Roy reprises his role in the second season of this hit show, joined by Tisca Chopra, Dino Morea, Shibani Dandekar and many more. Hostages is directed by Bollywood veteran Sudhir Mishra, who is known for his films like Dharavi, Chameli, and Khoya Khoya Chand.
Hostages is available for streaming on Disney+Hotstar from 9 September.
Atkan Chatkan (Zee5)
Presented by A R Rahman and scored by Shivamani, Atkan Chatkan has been a much-awaited film during the pandemic. It’s about a young tea delivery boy who forms a band with his friends and aims to complete in the city’s largest music competition, fighting his pessimistic father along the way. It’s another release in the ‘music-drama’ genre that’s been increasingly popular in India, including the recent Bandish Bandits.

Dolly Kitty Aur Woh Chamakte Sitaare (Netflix)
Starring Konkana Sen Sharma and Bhumi Pednekar as cousins who are trying to break traditional norms in the pursuit of happiness, Dolly Kitty Aur Woh Chamakte Sitaare promises to be a powerful, female-centric film. After all, it’s directed by none other than Alankrita Shrivastava of Lipstick Under My Burkha fame.
Look out for this Netflix film that begins streaming on 18 September.
Bad Boy Billionaires: India (Netflix)
Tracking the investigations and scandals of major names like Vijay Mallya of Kingfisher, Subrata Roy of Sahara India, and Nirav Modi and Ramalinga Raju of Satyam Computers, Bad Boy Billionaires: India has been eagerly awaited by Indian audiences. The show promises to explore “the greed, fraud, and corruption” that created and eventually destroyed these famous tycoons. Unfortunately, the series received major controversy and was recently put on hold by the Indian Supreme Court.
While Bad Boy Billionaires: India was originally supposed to release on 2 September, its future now remains uncertain. Stay tuned for more!
