A new initiative ‘Air Suvidha’ is also in place to allow passengers to submit their self-declaration and application for exemption from quarantine online, helping reduce the time waiting in lines and filling paperwork before a Vande Bharat flight. It is in place for international flight passengers at Delhi Airport since 11 August.

Meanwhile, Indian Civil Aviation Minister Hardeep Singh Puri recently announced on Twitter that Australia is in a list of 13 countries negotiating with India to establish a travel ‘air bubble’ for international flights.

The Melbourne lockdown in the last two months had caused some delays in flights out of Australia. However, Nandakumaran Konnat, Consul at the Consulate General of India (Sydney) reassured citizens who complained they were unable to book tickets as the website crashed while they were in the process of filling their details.

“It’s still a game between demand and supply. I’m sure more flights will be announced. We will not rest until the last person stranded here is evacuated,” he told Indian Link in June.
