Beauty tonics

Reading Time: 3 minutes

An easily available ingredient in your kitchen offers numerous beauty solutions

According to the dailymail.co.uk, the drop dead gorgeous actress Megan Fox cleanses and detoxes her system with a combination of Apple Cider Vinegar and water. Most of us have used Apple Cider Vinegar as a salad dressing, but reading a little more about it showed up a whole list of solutions to everyday skin and hair problems.

Recently, I changed the brand of hair colour I use and clumps of hair started to fall out! I didn’t know what to attribute it to – the Indian monsoons, the hard water, just the hair colour, or a side effect to my recent viral infection.

Stressed about my tresses, I thought of trying ACV (Apple Cider Vinegar). While there has been only a slight reduction in hair loss in the past two weeks that I have used it, I must say, the last rinse with ACV mixed with water left my hair softer and way more manageable.

Ideally, the raw and organic ACV would be your best bet, but if you can’t get that, you can pick up one which preferably has no additives or preservatives.

ACV has high levels of potassium, and the acetic acid, the main ingredient of vinegar, strips hair of any product build-up, leaving the hair soft and shiny. This ingredient has many benefits to offer.

Hair

To treat dandruff, dry scalp or hair loss, mix ¼ cup of ACV with ¼ cup of water and apply to your scalp. Leave for 20 minutes then wash off. This will take care of dandruff and also give you soft and shiny hair. ACV has anti-fungal and anti-bacterial qualities that fight infection. You can also use the same solution as the last rinse after you have washed off the conditioner. This works for coloured hair as well.

Skin

ACV also helps with skin related issues. It can be used to treat age spots, sunburns, feet/toe fungal or skin infections, warts and acne as well. Apply it to warts and leave it on overnight. Over a few weeks, the warts will come off.

If you have oily skin, apply a mix of one tablespoon ACV with two tablespoons of water on your face. ACV is an effective toner and balances the pH levels of your skin. Mix equal amounts of ACV with Fullers Earth and one tablespoon of honey, it makes an effective face mask to deep cleanse and detox the skin on your face and neck. Leave it on till it dries and rinse off.

Health

Gargle a diluted solution of ACV in the morning to get rid of bad breath, to get whiter teeth, and it can even unblock your sinuses if you have a cold.

Pour a cup of ACV into your bathtub as it fills up and take a long soak. The ACV will act as a detoxifying agent and help you relax after a hard day’s work.

So quit the expensive salon treatments that unleash a slew of chemicals on your skin and hair, and try this great, all natural ingredient
