State of Nostalgia: Andhra Pradesh

ANDHRA PRADESH

Hyma and Mustafa share their memories of Andhra Pradesh

I can’t go beyond the arts and culture that my state has gifted to India.
There are art centres galore. Kathak, a popular dance form whose inception was in the courts of the Nawabs, is one of our most famous, followed by Kuchipudi and Bharatanatyam. Hindustani classical and Carnatic music traditions also thrive. The Telugu Film industry, ‘Tollywood’, is the largest in the world in terms of architecture (eg the famed Ramoji Film City), and holds a Guinness World Record for the same.

In today’s age, we might be the IT hub of India, but our state is rich in history – check out our monuments such as the tomb of Quli Qutub Shah, Golconda Fort (where the world famous Kohinoor Diamond came from), Salar Jung Museum (the Nawab of Hyderabad was once the richest man in the world), Falaknuma Palace, Charminar.
Last but not the least, sample our cuisine: Hyderabad Biryani, Irani Chai, Double Ka Meetha, Haleem and Naancut biscuits… yum!

Andhra Pradesh is a place of Nawabs with its rich cultural heritage. It symbolises elegance and royal culture in its art, architecture, clothing and food. Its mesmerising Dum Biryani, Dum Murgh, Haleem, Nahari are only a few of the delicacies from the huge variety of thousands of food indulgences.

Hyderabad is a unique blend: The old city is surrounded by elegant palaces, forts, monuments, museums, jewels, art and crafts; the new city is an epitome of modern architecture with multinational skyscrapers, luxury hotels, and shopping malls.
Food is the clear winner above all and we take great pride in being welcoming hosts.
