Celebrate India Presents the 21st Victorian Festival of Diwali at Federation Square

Melbourne, Australia – Federation Square will come alive with colour, music, dance and flavour on Saturday 31 October to celebrate the 21st anniversary of the Victorian Festival of Diwali.

 This family-friendly festival continues as one of Melbourne’s most loved celebrations of Indian culture, diversity and community spirit.

A Full Day of Culture and Community

Running from midday, the festival will fill Federation Square with a jam-packed program of live performances, activities and food. Visitors can look forward to a vibrant mix of professional and community groups taking to the stages throughout the day, including:

  • Indian classical and folk dance performances from artists of various communities including non indian groups
  • High-energy Bollywood and contemporary dance items
  • Traditional adult and children’s folk dances
  • Yoga and dance workshops
  • Gifts and PRIZES to be won throughout the day.

Fun for the Whole Family

Families are well catered for, with dedicated kids’ entertainment including clown, stilt walking artists, face painting and hands-on craft activities, so children can learn about Diwali traditions while getting creative.

Bazaar and Street Food

The festival’s BUSTLING  BAZAAR returns, along with the FOOD marquees serving authentic street food and treats from across India. It’s a chance to shop for festive gifts, clothing, jewellery and crafts, and to feast on some of Melbourne’s best Indian flavours.

Evening Finale

The day will conclude with spectacular FIREWORKS over the Yarra, and many Melbourne landmarks will be illuminated in pink and purple to mark the occasion.
