A thousand smiles at a Thousand Spices

Justin Bieber surprises staff at Homebush Indian restaurant

It was a quiet afternoon at Thousand Spices Restaurant in Homebush.
Two young guys walked in, and were ushered to a table.
Restaurateur Amit Behl extended his usual hospitality and did not notice anything unusual about the pair.
Even though a jeep with two people stood outside as if on watch, and someone that looked like a minder walked in immediately after and picked a spot for himself by the door.
He did however, notice the tattoos.
He also noticed that the wait staff were all excited.

“It’s Justin Bieber, they told me, all animated,” Behl recounted to Indian Link. “I’d heard of course that he was in town.”

Beebz was in Sydney to attend a week-long Hillsong Church conference at Allphones Arena in Homebush.
Behl and his staff got their moment with the 21-year-old star, who was happy to oblige with photos and some friendly banter.
“He did not behave like a star at all,” Amit recalled. “He was gentle and polite, and not arrogant like you might expect.”
Not like the stars of the Indian cricket team, he quipped.

How did you find us, a small suburban restaurant, he asked Justin.
The Canadian star replied, “Felt like Indian food, Googled, found you and liked the way you looked!”

It is not known whether his lunch companion was fellow Hillsong follower and sidekick Joe Termini, who hit the news following a shark attack only days later.
Two other lunch outings at the Lemon Café in Newington and at the Waterview Restaurant in Bicentennial Park were not so peaceful, as photograph hunters and ‘Beliebers’, as the star’s fans refer to themselves, collected in large numbers outside. On both occasions, the bad boy of pop had to hotfoot it out to his waiting car.
Amit Behl’s Indian restaurant Thousand Spices (23, The Crescent, Homebush) was launched eleven years ago and today has spread to two levels. Besides a la carte dining it also has family and function rooms.
