Sringaram – Tales of Love: A Mesmerising Celebration of Dance, Desire and Feminist Power

June 22, 2025 @ 8:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Direct from its critically acclaimed season at the Adelaide Fringe Festival, Sringaram – Tales of Love arrives in Sydney to enchant audiences at the Qtopia Sydney Pride Festival 2025, offering an evocative exploration of femininity, queerness, and love through the ancient South Indian dance form of Bharatanatyam. This intimate performance fuses traditional movement with contemporary spoken words to celebrate connection, identity, and resistance—perfectly aligned with the spirit of Pride.

Choreographed and performed by Swaroopa Prameela Unni, a bold voice in contemporary Indian dance, Sringaram offers more than just a performance—it is a heartfelt story of self-acceptance and defiance told through fluid movement and layered storytelling. The work draws on the strength of feminist milestones in India while resonating deeply with LGBTQIA+ narratives of love, longing, and liberation.

Swaroopa’s performance style breathes life into Bharatanatyam with a radiant blend of grace, wit, and emotional depth. As Riley Jackson of Magazine 6000 observes:
“Swaroopa is a fantastic performer who really draws you in with her witty humour and gorgeous dance.”
