Women, what would you tell your school age self?

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Ahead of International Women’s Day on 8 March, Monash University’s Dr Michelle Ananda-Rajah was asked to speak at a girl’s school. The inspiring academic, also a doctor in infectious diseases and general medicine in Melbourne, took the opportunity to inspire a new generation of women to be the change they want to see.

She took to social media for inputs, asking the Twitterverse: what would you tell your school age self? Of course, what she couldn’t have expected was the flood of insightful comments.

After we stumbled across this inspiring Twitter thread, we just had to share some of the amazing advice shared by people across the board.

And, of course, the importance of sheer importance of knowing yourself, in a world that wants you to be a plus-one to someone else. Ladies, a man is not a plan.

In the moments when it’s difficult to see our best self in the mirror, here’s a great reminder in being kind, to others and also to ourselves.

Of course, there’s a lot of other great lessons to be found in the thread. We loved reading through to find some gems of wisdom, and perhaps some interesting perspectives, ahead of International Women’s Day.
