A bit about Deepti Alurkar

Personal: Born in India, I lived in Mumbai before we migrated to Australia over a decade ago. I live with my two young girls and husband in Taylors Hill. As a local resident, I have worked tirelessly for our community for many years. I am a person with strong ethics and values, my values include transparency, honesty, and compassion towards all people. I understand the challenges families face as I have been working very closely with our local community.

Professional: I worked with one of the top four banks for many years and after completion of my Diploma in Financial Planning started my own small business. I also run Not For Profit organisations and I have served on numerous boards including the Intercultural Advisory Board of Melton City Council.

The reason I’m standing for council elections

I have been passionately working for our local community for the past 8 years and I have actively supported & promoted local businesses and entrepreneurs. I have organised community events to bring our community closer. I have worked extensively with family violence victims and provided support. I have also organized & supported charities and fundraisers such as Cancer Council, Beyond Blue, Donation Drive for Bushfire Victims, donations towards family violence victims and provided free meals & assistance during COVID-19 Pandemic. Supporting Seniors and Youths through various workshops and programs, I have also been working with various not for profit organisations to promote inclusiveness and diversity.

I feel it is time to get a fresh voice that can be a bridge between communities and the council and work with every resident. I am confident I am equipped with skills and experience of working at grassroot level, hence I put my hand up for election.

Why people should vote for me

I have been passionately working within my local community for past many years and I am connected at grassroot level with many communities. I am the only candidate from my ward from a diverse background and considering Melton Council is a growing multicultural hub, it is important to have a diverse representation. Also I am not in it for money. For me our community comes first and serving them is my passion.

My contribution to the community

  • Providing a platform for women of all backgrounds to socialise and have a support group
  • Worked with Cricket Victoria to promote sports for women and children
  • Working with the victims of family violence
  • Bring communities together by organising community events and initiatives

  • During the pandemic, provided meals to the local families who have had it tough, assisted with grocery packs for seniors and students
  • Promoted local businesses through promotions

My achievements include being awarded the Women Making It Happen in the City of Melton award by the Djerriwarrh Health Services (2020) and the Meritorious Service to Community award by the Victorian Multicultural Commission (2018). I was also nominated for the Woman of the Year award by Melton City Council (2017 & 2018), Business Woman of the Year award by the IEC (2017) and the Gender Equality & Inclusive Leader of the Year award by Melton City Council (2017).

If elected, my post-pandemic key goals will be to
