I belong to India and cannot pick any one state.
From my perspective, there is not just one stand out factor (regarding India) but many. I recommend A.L. Basham’s 1954 book The Wonder That Was India.  In fact, I would tweak the title to The Wonder That is India!
India is one of the oldest civilisations in the world; indeed what is wonderful is that it has continued as an uninterrupted living civilisation till date. It has been a ‘confluence’ of various traditions at various stages of its history, incorporating within itself various cultures, religions, perceptions and thought processes.
Today on Independence Day, we celebrate this very antiquity and diversity with energy and enthusiasm.
