SUMMARY:Farming the Revolution - Sydney Film Festival
DESCRIPTION:  \n\nThis immersive documentary captures a mass movement in vivid close-up\, as 12 million farmers challenge the Indian government\, forcing it to retract its unjust farm laws.\n\n\n\nFor 13 months between 2020-21\, 12 million farmers in Punjab\, in the north of India\, took to the streets protesting the government’s unjust farm laws. They occupied the outskirts of the capital city of Delhi\, setting up a tent-city that only expanded over the protest’s duration. In Farming the Revolution\, Nishtha Jain applies a microscope to this exceptional moment in Indian history. Characters slip in and out of this quietly compelling film as the farmers and their families endure the brutal summer and cold winter\, and come together to advocate for justice as though it was the most natural thing to do. Ultimately gesturing towards hope\, this monumental achievement took out the top prize at Hot Docs 2024. \nLimited seats are available for patrons requiring access for wheelchairs\, low vision and hearing loop. Please contact our ticketing team directly on 1300 733 733 or tickets@sff.org.au to complete your booking. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“Remarkable in its audio-visual inquiry into protest as a cultural movement\, and in its excavation of the emotional highs and lows involved in making lasting change.”\nSiddhant Adlakha\, Variety\n\n\n“While revolutions need leaders\, the documentary subtly suggests that perhaps we overrate the importance of charismatic figureheads… ultimately\, it is the people who have the power.”\nTim Grierson\, Screen International\n\n\n\n\nGET TICKETS HERE: Farming the Revolution – Sydney Film Festival

SUMMARY:Curtains of Co-Creation by Ritika Skand Vohra
DESCRIPTION:Curtains Of Co-creation is an event exploring embroidery as a collective and dialogical practice. It invites audiences to engage with textile-making through artist talks\, hands-on workshops\, and live stitching sessions that examine the intersections of labour\, memory\, and creative agency. \nOn Friday\, 23 May (6–9 PM)\, the event opens with an artist talk where participating artists will share insights into their practice\, reflecting on the relationship between industrial and collective modes of making. This session provides an opportunity to hear different perspectives on embroidery as a cultural and political practice. Tea will be served to the audience. \nOn Saturday\, 24 May (10 AM–10 PM)\, participants can join one of three workshop sessions. These workshops will introduce mark-making exercises and embroidery techniques\, encouraging dialogue on personal and collective identity through material engagements. Participants will contribute stitches\, textures\, and symbols in response to prompts on labour and memory. Throughout the day\, conversations and making processes will be recorded through audio\, video\, and written reflections. \nA live stitching component will take place\, where the artist and participants will collaboratively weave their contributions into larger textile panels. This performative act highlights the passage of time and labour within the making process. The textile works created during the event will be photographed and archived as part of the final documentation. \nThis event is open to individuals with or without prior embroidery experience\, offering a space for creative exploration and shared making.

SUMMARY:Nazeem Hussain - You Paid For This
DESCRIPTION:  \n\n\n\nAge Restrictions: 15+ \n\n“This is the official bio for my brand new show You Paid for This. Not to be confused with any of the fakes ones out there. I had to write this bio myself\, which really threw my morning plans. I thought coming up with the title was the hard part\, but writing a 150 word biography about a comedy show I haven’t performed yet is really hard. It’s called You Paid for This\, and yes\, I’m aware you likely haven’t actually paid yet. It’s what we call in the biz “presumptive selling”. A bold\, but risky move. The show does what the title suggests\, presuming you buy a ticket. I can’t promise much beyond an hour of jokes\, sponsored by you. You haven’t paid yet\, but we both know it’s only a matter of time. See you there! \nMy Live Nation members can secure tickets first during the pre-sale beginning Thursday 14 November\, 10am. To access presale tickets through the Live Nation presale\, register with My Live Nation. SUMMARY:THE WRONG GODS - S.Shakthidharan
DESCRIPTION:  \nA mother\, a daughter\, and the unstoppable tide of change… \nFrom the writer of Counting and Cracking comes a powerful new work of theatre that pulses with spirit\, struggle\, and the bonds of family. \nOn the banks of a sacred river\, in the heart of India\, a battle is brewing. Not with weapons but with words\, wisdom and wills. When a bold young girl dares to dream beyond her village and a mysterious stranger arrives with promises of progress\, centuries of tradition are put to the test. \nThe Wrong Gods is a fierce showdown between the old world and the new. Between land and money\, gods and markets\, mothers and daughters. It’s part epic\, part fable\, part call to arms. \nFunny\, moving\, and quietly political\, The Wrong Gods is about the cost of ambition\, the fight for self-determination\, and the complicated inheritance of a world in flux. \nDon’t miss your chance to be captivated by yet another remarkable and thought-provoking work by S. Shakthidharan. \nThis is a fine play of ideas\, for fine actors. Nadie Kammallaweera\, Radhika Mudaliyar and the award-winning Vaishnavi Suryaprakash have all given unforgettable performances in Shakthi’s work in recent years. Counting and Cracking and The Jungle and the Sea were big plays. Here\, with just four actors and ninety minutes\, Shakthi’s writing is even bigger than ever\, modelling in this small patch of India the impact of capitalism on the planet as a whole. What a writer. – Eamon \nGET TICKETS HERE: THE WRONG GODS – Belvoir St Theatre

SUMMARY:Pakiboy² by Jiva Parthipan
DESCRIPTION:  \nPakiboy²’\, a provocative and deeply personal multi-channel film installation by artist\nJiva Parthipan\, will premiere on Saturday 29 March at Campbelltown Arts Centre. This unique work revisits and reimagines Parthipan’s seminal dance piece\, first performed in London in 2000\, confronting themes of identity\, race\, ageing\, and desire through the lens of the artist’s lived experience. \nThe installation pairs archival footage of the original ‘Pakiboy’ (2000) performance with a newly filmed ‘Pakiboy²’ (2025) placing the artist in dialogue with his younger self\, creating a poignant and visually compelling exploration of his 50-year-old body\, one that has not danced in over 20 years and is now diagnosed with a degenerative neurological condition\, Parkinson’s Disease. \nThe project reflects on the artist’s journey through time\, exploring the profound shifts in his body and identity over two decades. The journey of ‘Pakiboy²’ is one of resilience and creative reinvention. Born in Sri Lanka\, Jiva Parthipan’s practice has always been deeply rooted in the intersections of identity\, race\, sexuality\, and social justice. Over his decades-long career\, Parthipan has traversed mediums and continents\, working as a dancer\, filmmaker\, and interdisciplinary artist in London\, Sydney\, Paris\, South Africa\, Switzerland and Dublin. \nExhibition Launch: Saturday 29 March 2025 5:00pm – 7:00pm \nArtist Talk: Saturday 29 March 4:00pm – 5:00pm with Jiva Parthipan\, Zanny Begg and Martin del Amo \nExhibition Dates: 29 March – 22 June 2025 \nFIND OUT MORE HERE: Jiva Parthipan: Pakiboy² A collaboration with Zanny Begg | Campbelltown Arts Centre
