SUMMARY:Reviving Heirloom Textiles for a New Age: In Conversation with Sanjay Garg
DESCRIPTION:  \nJoin Sanjay Garg (Raw Mango Founder) in conversation with Megha Kapoor (INPRINT Magazine\, Vogue India)\, for an evening exploring the past and the future of Indian textiles\, followed by drinks in the AM’s Westpac Long Gallery. \nRaw Mango\, founded by Sanjay Garg in 2008\, is a design house with a practice grounded in textile research\, historical inquiry and living craft traditions. \nWorking collaboratively with karigar (master craftspeople) across India to research and revitalise regional weaving and dyeing techniques\, the studio also interrogates heirloom pieces and museum collections to create contemporary textiles that innovate upon skills refined over centuries. \nApproaching textiles as archives within a continuously evolving cultural ecology\, this talk will situate Raw Mango’s work within broader questions of material culture: how old technologies endure\, adapt\, and generate new aesthetic vocabularies. \nGET TICKETS HERE: Australian Museum

SUMMARY:Holi Festival Sydney
DESCRIPTION:The Holi Festival Sydney is a vibrant\, family-friendly cultural festival celebrating Holi — the traditional Hindu Festival of Colours\, which marks the arrival of spring\, unity\, joy\, and togetherness. It’s one of Sydney’s most colourful annual community events and is open to people of all ages and backgrounds. \nHoli itself is a centuries-old Hindu festival where people throw coloured powder at each other\, dance\, enjoy music\, and celebrate the victory of good over evil (a tradition celebrated in India\, Nepal and around the world) \n\nWhat Happens There\nColour Play (Main Attraction)\n\n\nThrow eco-friendly coloured powders at friends and new people — the heart of the Holi experience. \n\n\nParticipants usually wear white clothes so the colours stand out! \n\n\nMusic & Entertainment\n\n\nDJs and live music throughout the day to keep the energy high. \n\n\nDance performances and cultural showcases featuring artists from different backgrounds. \n\n\nFood & Drinks\n\n\nA variety of food stalls offering cuisines from around the world — from Indian snacks to international treats. \n\n\nActivities & Fun\n\n\nGiveaways and crowd engagement games. \n\n\nStalls to explore unique items or festival merchandise. \n\n\nHoli After Dark\n\n\nAs night falls\, the event turns into a glow-in-the-dark experience with UV light effects and colourful night-time fun. \n\n\nChill Zones\n\n\nThere’s usually a quieter beer garden area where adults can relax away from the main colour zones. \n\n\nFamily & Community Friendly\n\n\nThe festival focuses on unity in diversity — bringing communities together from all cultures. \n\n\nIt’s suitable for kids\, families\, teens and adults of all ages. \n\n\nTips for Attending\n\n\nWear clothes you don’t mind getting coloured — the powder stains (but washes out). \n\n\nBring sunglasses or protective eyewear — it helps keep powder out of eyes. \n\n\nRegister online before you go — even free events sometimes require a ticket for entry checks. \n\n\nStay hydrated — it can get warm during active colour play. \n\n\nKeep electronics in a sealed bag — colours can get into phones/laptops. \n\n\nCultural Significance of Holi\nThe festival is not just fun — it’s rooted in culture and symbolism: \n\n\nCelebration of spring and renewal. \n\n\nSymbolises the triumph of good over evil (based on Hindu mythology). \n\n\nA time for forgiveness\, unity and new beginnings.

SUMMARY:MEETING THE BUDDHA: Australian Premiere of Award-Winning Feature Documentary
DESCRIPTION:  \nInternationally acclaimed feature documentary\, Meeting the Buddha arrives in Australia this February\, offering an intimate\, cinematic exploration of Tibetan Buddhism’s journey into the modern world through one of its most influential spiritual lineages. \nCreated by an international filmmaking team from the United Kingdom\, Germany\, Hungary and Denmark\, in collaboration with venerable Tibetan Lamas\, Meeting the Buddha is produced by The Beautiful Truth\, the award-winning film and storytelling studio known for documentaries that explore purpose\, impact and humanity. \nBlending rare archival footage\, original animation\, intimate interviews and contemporary reflections\, the film traces the extraordinary life and legacy of the 16th Karmapa\, Rangjung Rigpe Dorje\, head of the Karma Kagyu lineage of Tibetan Buddhism\, and his profound relationship with Lama Ole Nydahl\, a young Danish seeker whose life was transformed by a chance encounter with the Karmapa in 1969. \nThrough this bond between teacher and student\, Meeting the Buddha tells a richly historical yet deeply personal story of courage\, friendship and spiritual transmission—revealing how timeless wisdom found its way from the monasteries of Tibet into contemporary life across the globe. \n”Meeting the Buddha is a story of friendship\, risk and transformation\, told across continents and decade\,” says Director Marta Gyorgy-Kessler. \n“It brings together rare archival footage\, animation and intimate interviews to show how a chance encounter in 1969 helped carry Tibetan Buddhism into contemporary life — and why that story still matters today.” \nThe film captures the remarkable presence of the 16th Karmapa—often referred to as a ‘Living Buddha’—from his early years in Tibet\, through exile in India\, to his visionary commitment to sharing Buddhist teachings with the modern world. \nAlongside him\, audiences meet Ole Nydahl\, once a wild young hippy from Denmark who\, as a child\, declared his ambition to become the “Danish champion of mind.” Together with his wife Hannah Nydahl\, Ole became instrumental in bringing Tibetan Buddhism to the West\, helping establish hundreds of meditation centres from Mexico City to Vladivostok and carrying forward their teacher’s vision with unshakable dedication. \nSet against political upheaval in Tibet and cultural transformation in the West\, Meeting the Buddha honours the living transmission of the Karma Kagyu lineage and the enduring relationship between teacher and student that sustains it. \nDirected by Márta György-Kessler\, who first encountered Buddhism through Ole and Hannah Nydahl in 1990\, Meeting the Buddha follows her award-winning documentary Hannah – Buddhism’s Untold Journey\, which screened internationally and was featured on Netflix. \nIn 2025 alone\, Meeting the Buddha has earned 13 international awards at jury-only screenings\, including four Awards of Excellence from the IndieFEST Film Awards\, The Impact DOCS Awards and Docs Without Borders. \nThe Australian release of Meeting the Buddha arrives at a time of growth in Buddhism nationwide. According to the 2021 Australian Bureau of Statistics Census\, 2.4% of Australians—approximately 615\,000 people—identify as Buddhist\, making it the fourth-largest religion in Australia. This marks a significant increase from just 0.8% of the population in 1971\, reflecting decades of growth and the expanding presence of Buddhist practice and communities across the country. Today\, Buddhism follows Christianity (43.9%)\, No Religion (38.9%)\, Islam (3.2%) and Hinduism (2.7%) in Australia’s religious landscape\, underscoring its enduring and evolving role in contemporary Australian society. \nGET TICKETS HERE: \nPerth – 26 February (Event Cinemas Innaloo) \nMelbourne – 3 March (Eclipse Cinema) \nAlbury – 4 March (Regent Cinemas) \nCanberra – 4 March (Palace Electric) \nSydney – 7 March (Palace Moore Park) \nNewcastle – 9 March (Kotara) \nByron Bay – 16 March (Palace Byron Bay)
