SUMMARY:Avatar: Forms of Vishnu
DESCRIPTION:  \nThis captivating exhibition brings together centuries of art and storytelling from South and Southeast Asia celebrating Vishnu\, the Hindu deity who preserves order in the universe. \nAvatar\, meaning ‘descent’ in Sanskrit\, describes the many forms Vishnu takes to descend from the heavens to restore balance on earth. In sculpture\, painting\, textiles\, photographs and film\, the exhibition traces the ways artists have envisioned Vishnu’s various avatars\, including Matsya the fish\, Kurma the tortoise\, the beloved Krishna\, the noble prince Rāma\, and Kalki\, the future avatar who will bring renewal. \nBrimming with tales of heroism\, love and devotion\, the exhibition presents exceptional historical and contemporary art from renowned collections in Australia\, India\, Cambodia\, Switzerland and the United Kingdom. It also introduces new works created especially for the exhibition by artists Desmond Lazaro\, Gitanjali Das\, Kalam Patua and Sumakshi Singh. \nAvatar: Forms of Vishnu will be accompanied by a richly illustrated publication featuring essays by writers from across the globe. \nGET TICKETS HERE: Avatar | Art Gallery of NSW

SUMMARY:The Jungle And The Sea
DESCRIPTION:  \nFrom the visionary team behind the multi-award-winning Counting and Cracking – S. Shakthidharan and long-time collaborator Eamon Flack – comes ‘another achievement of sustained feeling and empathy’ (The Guardian). \nWhen an unexpected act of destruction splits her family apart\, Gowrie takes a radical vow of defiance: she blindfolds herself\, refusing to see the world again until her loved ones are reunited. This sets the stage for one family’s epic journey to retain their dignity and safety\, as they live through Sri Lanka’s decades-long civil war. \nGrand in scale and deeply human at its core\, this touching work honours those who endured unimaginable loss – and upheld their capacity for love\, connection and pride\, even amid devastation. Built out of real-life testimonies from the war and woven through with elements of seminal Indian text the Mahābhāratha and the Greek myth of Antigone\, The Jungle and the Sea is a theatrical epic of resilience and the pursuit of justice through love. \nFeaturing live Carnatic music and a cast including Bharathanatyam dancer Anandavalli and Counting and Cracking alumni Prakash Belawadi\, Nadie Kammallaweera\, Shiv Palekar\, Dushan Philips and Rajan Velu\, this evocative theatrical monument is a stirring meditation on survival. \nGET TICKETS HERE: Melbourne Theatre Company
