SUMMARY:Avatar: Forms of Vishnu
DESCRIPTION:  \nThis captivating exhibition brings together centuries of art and storytelling from South and Southeast Asia celebrating Vishnu\, the Hindu deity who preserves order in the universe. \nAvatar\, meaning ‘descent’ in Sanskrit\, describes the many forms Vishnu takes to descend from the heavens to restore balance on earth. In sculpture\, painting\, textiles\, photographs and film\, the exhibition traces the ways artists have envisioned Vishnu’s various avatars\, including Matsya the fish\, Kurma the tortoise\, the beloved Krishna\, the noble prince Rāma\, and Kalki\, the future avatar who will bring renewal. \nBrimming with tales of heroism\, love and devotion\, the exhibition presents exceptional historical and contemporary art from renowned collections in Australia\, India\, Cambodia\, Switzerland and the United Kingdom. It also introduces new works created especially for the exhibition by artists Desmond Lazaro\, Gitanjali Das\, Kalam Patua and Sumakshi Singh. \nAvatar: Forms of Vishnu will be accompanied by a richly illustrated publication featuring essays by writers from across the globe. \nGET TICKETS HERE: Avatar | Art Gallery of NSW

SUMMARY:And What Will People Say by Amani Mahmoud
DESCRIPTION:  \nA powerful fusion of Indian dance\, music\, and poetry\, this immersive theatre work confronts domestic violence with raw honesty\, cultural depth\, and the courage to discuss uncomfortable truths. Winner of two Sydney Fringe 2025 awards — Best in Category (Spoken Word) and Best Emerging Producer — this acclaimed production has moved audiences across communities and sparked vital conversations. \nWhat happens when silence is survival — but speaking out is freedom? \nAnd What Will People Say? is an electrifying 60-minute immersive theatre experience that blends Indian dance\, original music\, and spoken word to explore the unspoken realities of domestic violence within families and communities. Told through the eyes of a mother and her children\, this powerful piece invites audiences into a deeply personal journey of love\, fear\, shame\, and resilience. \nRooted in real experiences and shaped by the voices too often left out of the conversation\, the production challenges cultural stigma and generational silence. It exposes the hidden stories that echo behind closed doors—those shaped not only by violence itself\, but by the social pressures that keep people quiet. It is a story of pain but also of courage\, hope\, and radical truth-telling. \nThis is more than theatre. This is a conversation our communities need to have. And it starts here. \nGET TICKETS HERE: fortyfive downstairs
