SUMMARY:Avatar: Forms of Vishnu
DESCRIPTION:  \nThis captivating exhibition brings together centuries of art and storytelling from South and Southeast Asia celebrating Vishnu\, the Hindu deity who preserves order in the universe. \nAvatar\, meaning ‘descent’ in Sanskrit\, describes the many forms Vishnu takes to descend from the heavens to restore balance on earth. It also introduces new works created especially for the exhibition by artists Desmond Lazaro\, Gitanjali Das\, Kalam Patua and Sumakshi Singh. \nAvatar: Forms of Vishnu will be accompanied by a richly illustrated publication featuring essays by writers from across the globe. \nGET TICKETS HERE: Avatar | Art Gallery of NSW

SUMMARY:Mustafa Faizi\, Sangeet Mishra (India) & Maharshi Raval
DESCRIPTION:  \n\n\nJoin us for an intimate evening of Indian classical music\, bringing together three exceptional artists in a rare and dynamic collaboration. \n\n\n\n\nJoin us for an intimate evening of Indian classical music\, bringing together three exceptional artists in a rare and dynamic collaboration: Mustafa Faizi (harmonium & vocals)\, Sangeet Mishra (sarangi)\, and Maharshi Raval (tabla). \nThe concert will unfold in two distinct yet interconnected sets. \nThe first set features a performance from sarangi maestro Sangeet Mishra and tabla virtuoso Maharshi Raval. A leading exponent of the Banaras tradition\, Sangeet Mishra represents the eighth generation in a distinguished lineage of sarangi players. Currently touring from India\, his playing is marked by expressive depth\, subtle ornamentation\, and an intimate connection to the raga form. He is joined by Maharshi Raval\, an accomplished tabla artist known for his sensitivity\, rhythmic precision\, and ability to elevate both solo and accompanying contexts through nuanced interplay. \nIn the second set\, Mustafa Faizi joins the ensemble\, bringing voice and harmonium into dialogue with sarangi and tabla. One of the leading Afghan classical vocalists of his generation\, Mustafa Faizi’s music is rooted in the Patiala Gharana tradition and shaped by the legacy of Ustad Mohammad Hussain Sarahang. His performances are known for their emotional depth\, expansive improvisation\, and the seamless blending of Afghan and Indian classical sensibilities. \nTogether\, the trio will explore the rich landscape of raga – unfolding slowly through alap (unmetered introduction)\, followed by compositions set to intricate rhythmic cycles. The combination of voice\, sarangi\, and tabla offers a deeply immersive listening experience\, where melody and rhythm intertwine in real time. \nThis concert is not only a presentation of classical form\, but a living expression of musical lineage – carried across borders\, sustained through devotion\, and shared in the spirit of continuity and connection. \nDon’t miss this very special concert. \nPresented by World Within Worlds\, with support from the City Of Sydney. \nGET TICKETS HERE: Mustafa Faizi\, Sangeet Mishra (India) & Maharshi Raval Tickets\, Sunday\, June 7  •  4:30 PM – 7 PM | Eventbrite
