SUMMARY:Pakiboy² by Jiva Parthipan
DESCRIPTION:  \nPakiboy²’\, a provocative and deeply personal multi-channel film installation by artist\nJiva Parthipan\, will premiere on Saturday 29 March at Campbelltown Arts Centre. This unique work revisits and reimagines Parthipan’s seminal dance piece\, first performed in London in 2000\, confronting themes of identity\, race\, ageing\, and desire through the lens of the artist’s lived experience. \nThe installation pairs archival footage of the original ‘Pakiboy’ (2000) performance with a newly filmed ‘Pakiboy²’ (2025) placing the artist in dialogue with his younger self\, creating a poignant and visually compelling exploration of his 50-year-old body\, one that has not danced in over 20 years and is now diagnosed with a degenerative neurological condition\, Parkinson’s Disease. \nThe project reflects on the artist’s journey through time\, exploring the profound shifts in his body and identity over two decades. The journey of ‘Pakiboy²’ is one of resilience and creative reinvention. Born in Sri Lanka\, Jiva Parthipan’s practice has always been deeply rooted in the intersections of identity\, race\, sexuality\, and social justice. Over his decades-long career\, Parthipan has traversed mediums and continents\, working as a dancer\, filmmaker\, and interdisciplinary artist in London\, Sydney\, Paris\, South Africa\, Switzerland and Dublin. \nExhibition Launch: Saturday 29 March 2025 5:00pm – 7:00pm \nArtist Talk: Saturday 29 March 4:00pm – 5:00pm with Jiva Parthipan\, Zanny Begg and Martin del Amo \nExhibition Dates: 29 March – 22 June 2025 \nFIND OUT MORE HERE: Jiva Parthipan: Pakiboy² A collaboration with Zanny Begg | Campbelltown Arts Centre

SUMMARY:Farming the Revolution - Sydney Film Festival
DESCRIPTION:  \n\nThis immersive documentary captures a mass movement in vivid close-up\, as 12 million farmers challenge the Indian government\, forcing it to retract its unjust farm laws.\n\n\n\nFor 13 months between 2020-21\, 12 million farmers in Punjab\, in the north of India\, took to the streets protesting the government’s unjust farm laws. They occupied the outskirts of the capital city of Delhi\, setting up a tent-city that only expanded over the protest’s duration. In Farming the Revolution\, Nishtha Jain applies a microscope to this exceptional moment in Indian history. Characters slip in and out of this quietly compelling film as the farmers and their families endure the brutal summer and cold winter\, and come together to advocate for justice as though it was the most natural thing to do. Ultimately gesturing towards hope\, this monumental achievement took out the top prize at Hot Docs 2024. \nLimited seats are available for patrons requiring access for wheelchairs\, low vision and hearing loop. Please contact our ticketing team directly on 1300 733 733 or tickets@sff.org.au to complete your booking. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“Remarkable in its audio-visual inquiry into protest as a cultural movement\, and in its excavation of the emotional highs and lows involved in making lasting change.”\nSiddhant Adlakha\, Variety\n\n\n“While revolutions need leaders\, the documentary subtly suggests that perhaps we overrate the importance of charismatic figureheads… ultimately\, it is the people who have the power.”\nTim Grierson\, Screen International\n\n\n\n\nGET TICKETS HERE: Farming the Revolution – Sydney Film Festival
