SUMMARY:Pakiboy² by Jiva Parthipan
DESCRIPTION:  \nPakiboy²’\, a provocative and deeply personal multi-channel film installation by artist\nJiva Parthipan\, will premiere on Saturday 29 March at Campbelltown Arts Centre. This unique work revisits and reimagines Parthipan’s seminal dance piece\, first performed in London in 2000\, confronting themes of identity\, race\, ageing\, and desire through the lens of the artist’s lived experience. \nThe installation pairs archival footage of the original ‘Pakiboy’ (2000) performance with a newly filmed ‘Pakiboy²’ (2025) placing the artist in dialogue with his younger self\, creating a poignant and visually compelling exploration of his 50-year-old body\, one that has not danced in over 20 years and is now diagnosed with a degenerative neurological condition\, Parkinson’s Disease. \nThe project reflects on the artist’s journey through time\, exploring the profound shifts in his body and identity over two decades. The journey of ‘Pakiboy²’ is one of resilience and creative reinvention. Born in Sri Lanka\, Jiva Parthipan’s practice has always been deeply rooted in the intersections of identity\, race\, sexuality\, and social justice. Over his decades-long career\, Parthipan has traversed mediums and continents\, working as a dancer\, filmmaker\, and interdisciplinary artist in London\, Sydney\, Paris\, South Africa\, Switzerland and Dublin. \nExhibition Launch: Saturday 29 March 2025 5:00pm – 7:00pm \nArtist Talk: Saturday 29 March 4:00pm – 5:00pm with Jiva Parthipan\, Zanny Begg and Martin del Amo \nExhibition Dates: 29 March – 22 June 2025 \nFIND OUT MORE HERE: Jiva Parthipan: Pakiboy² A collaboration with Zanny Begg | Campbelltown Arts Centre

SUMMARY:THE WRONG GODS - S.Shakthidharan
DESCRIPTION:  \nA mother\, a daughter\, and the unstoppable tide of change… \nFrom the writer of Counting and Cracking comes a powerful new work of theatre that pulses with spirit\, struggle\, and the bonds of family. \nOn the banks of a sacred river\, in the heart of India\, a battle is brewing. Not with weapons but with words\, wisdom and wills. When a bold young girl dares to dream beyond her village and a mysterious stranger arrives with promises of progress\, centuries of tradition are put to the test. \nThe Wrong Gods is a fierce showdown between the old world and the new. Between land and money\, gods and markets\, mothers and daughters. It’s part epic\, part fable\, part call to arms. \nFunny\, moving\, and quietly political\, The Wrong Gods is about the cost of ambition\, the fight for self-determination\, and the complicated inheritance of a world in flux. \nDon’t miss your chance to be captivated by yet another remarkable and thought-provoking work by S. Shakthidharan. \nThis is a fine play of ideas\, for fine actors. Nadie Kammallaweera\, Radhika Mudaliyar and the award-winning Vaishnavi Suryaprakash have all given unforgettable performances in Shakthi’s work in recent years. Counting and Cracking and The Jungle and the Sea were big plays. Here\, with just four actors and ninety minutes\, Shakthi’s writing is even bigger than ever\, modelling in this small patch of India the impact of capitalism on the planet as a whole. What a writer. – Eamon \nGET TICKETS HERE: THE WRONG GODS – Belvoir St Theatre
