SUMMARY:Marie Curie by Sydney Srinivas
DESCRIPTION:  \nIn this fascinating biography\, Sydney Srinivas intertwines the science\, the scientist and the person. Mother of two young children and bereft by the untimely death of her husband Pierre\, Marie fought sorrow\, pain and loneliness. Although first snubbed as a foreigner by Parisian society\, she was offered France’s greatest honour; her remains are placed in Le Pantheon in Paris. Exceptional photographs and the reproduction of original documents reinforce the reader’s interest in this book. \nThe author’s pilgrimages to the Marie Curie Museums in Warsaw and Paris bring authenticity and feeling to this compassionate work. The launch of this book in Sydney follows the ones held in Maria Sklodowska Museum\, Warsaw\, Poland on September 18\, 2024\, and in the Museum of the Institut Curie\, Paris on September 22\, 2024\, in the presence of distinguished audiences. \nThe Book Launch and Author Talk will be presented by Sydney Srinivas in English. A Q& A will follow the talk. There will be an opportunity to purchase the book on the day followed by book signing. All proceeds of book sales go towards the charity McGrath Foundation.

SUMMARY:Nazri - Featuring Maharshi Raval
DESCRIPTION:  \nNazri is an intercultural hybrid performance conceptualised and composed by award-winning composer Dr. Shervin Mirzeinali and funded by Creative Australia and the City of Sydney. This captivating production brings together music\, dance\, and the ancient Persian tradition of communal giving\, transforming it into a mesmerising and deeply moving artistic experience. \nAt the heart of Nazri lies the ritual where cooking food transcends sustenance\, becoming an expression of compassion\, unity\, and shared humanity. \nDr. Elnaz Sheshgelani\, an accomplished Iranian contemporary dancer\, draws inspiration from traditional Persian dance to reimagine the ritual for the modern stage. She uses the chador (Iranian veil) and everyday cooking utensils—trays\, skimmers\, colanders\, and beans—as poetic tools of storytelling. Her dynamic choreography embodies the essence of the ritual\, seamlessly blending grace\, strength\, and innovation. \nAdding depth to the performance are three virtuoso percussionists\, each representing a distinct cultural tradition: \n\nMaharshi Raval (Tabla)\nSohrab Kolahdooz (Tombak)\nNiki Johnson (Cymbals & Bass Drum)\n\nTogether\, they transform everyday cooking utensils into new sound objects\, innovatively integrating their unique techniques and cultural influences. The result is a vibrant soundscape that captures the essence of Nazri (the ritual)—from the rhythmic clinking of pots to the sizzle of cooking food and the murmured voices of a community united in ritual. Their collaboration weaves together diverse cultural roots\, creating a harmonious exploration of sound. \nGET TICKETS HERE: Nazri
