World Hearing Day is celebrated on 3 March to raise awareness on how to prevent deafness along with promoting ear care. I spoke to two hearing experts from Flinders University who absolutely stressed the “magic of hearing” to me.
Notably, one in six people in Australia suffer from chronic tinnitus (ringing in the ears), yet not much research has been done to find solutions and improve treatments for those living with the condition
This gap in research knowledge intrigued Dr Dee Domingo, a young scientist from Bengaluru, to begin exploring new avenues for research and analysis of tinnitus – involving brain stimulation trials to manage the condition and examining whether tinnitus suffers fared worse during COVID-19 lockdowns.
I asked the two researchers about coping with tinnitus and their expectations from the new research project.
