Prahba Arun Kumar mystery continues

Reading Time: 3 minutesFive months after the murder of Indian national Prabha Arun Kumar at Westmead in Sydney’s west, Homicide Squad detectives have released new CCTV footage of a person they believe may be be able to help them catch her killer.

After the murder of 41-year-old Prahba Arun Kumar in March, detectives from the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad set up Strike Force Marcoala.
Detectives have now released new CCTV footage of a person walking through Parramatta Golf Course, towards Jubilee Lane, on the night of Prabha’s murder.
Emergency services were called to a public walkway between Argyle Street, Parramatta, and Amos Street, Westmead, about 9.30pm on Saturday 7 March 2015.
Prabha was found seriously injured after being stabbed in the neck, and later died at Westmead Hospital
Mother to nine-year-old Meghana, Prabha was an Indian national working in Australia for IT company MindTree. She was speaking to her husband in India on her mobile phone when she was attacked.

“Prahba’s death has affected a lot of people, including her family in India and the wider Australian community. These people need closure and we are reliant on the public’s help to allow us to bring that to them,” Detective Acting Inspector Ritchie Sim said.
“The person in the footage is one person who we have not been able to identify so far. While it’s not the best footage, we are hoping it might prompt someone’s memory.”
Detective Acting Inspector Ritchie Sim said police are continuing to work closely with Prabha’s family and investigators are considering travelling to Bengaluru, India.
“Considering the nature of the investigation and because it is Prabha’s home town, it is an obvious line of inquiry. It’s important we don’t speculate but we need to exhaust every line of inquiry,” Detective Acting Inspector Sim said.
Following the public outpouring of grief after Prabha’s murder, including prayer vigils at Parramatta Park and Sai Temple at Strathfield, investigators are working alongside Parramatta Park Trust and the Hills Holroyd Parramatta Community Migrant Resource Centre to establish a memorial to coincide with her birthday.

This follows the donation of a plaque in Prabha’s name from the Community Migrant Resource Centre.
Detective Acting Inspector Sim also announced the Parramatta Park Trust will be naming the footpath along Jubilee Avenue in Prabha’s honour.
“The event is expected to take place on Sunday 22 November, which is the weekend of Prabha’s birthday. We remain in close contact with Prabha’s family and we have invited them to attend the memorial event. We will also assist in helping the family to make the trip to Sydney from India.” Detective Acting Inspector Sim said.

In March, in the days following her murder, Prabha’s husband Arun Kumar and brother Shankar Shetty came to Sydney to assist detectives with their inquiries and appeal for information.

At a press conference, Arun Kumar said, “I know that we can’t bring her back, but I want whoever killed my gorgeous wife to be brought to justice.”
Police are urging anyone with information in relation to this incident to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or use the Crime Stoppers online reporting page: https://nsw.crimestoppers.com.au/ Information you provide will be treated in the strictest of confidence. We remind people they should not report crime information via our Facebook and Twitter pages.
