Community cricket series 2010 off to a great start
Local clubs take to the field once again after an impressive inaugural season last year, SANJIV DUBEY reports.
The much-awaited 2010 Community Cricket Series started recently with its Inaugural 30/30 Parramatta Spring Cup. Eight teams played a round robin series. Once again teams representing different parts of the subcontinent will be vying for this year’s prestigious trophy as it is increasing in popularity and is all set to attract many more teams in the soon to start IPL style 20/20 Indian Link Radio Cup.
In last year’s edition the tournament not only won the hearts of the participating players but it was also awarded the prestigious community event of the year.
In the opening round of the tournament the Lions of Punjab overpowered the Bulls from Haryana by defeating them convincingly by 25 runs. The Lions also overcame the Warriors from Ahmedabad – it was a close encounter which they won by 10 runs. With these two wins in a row, they have moved on the top of the table along with Amin Events XI who are still undefeated in their first two encounters.
Sydney Tasers, Vibrant Gujarat, Sydney Supersonic and Haryana Bulls have won one game each while Ahmedabad Warriors and Footwork Sports Academy remain winless. Any team which wins at least 4 of their 7 matches are most likely to reach the semi-final stage.
Even though it’s too early to say who will take the trophy home, some of the teams have definitely set the tone and have presented themselves as strong contenders.
