Plant a tree on National Tree Day
Council is calling on residents, community groups, churches, businesses and schools to help plant trees during the biggest tree planting event of the year – National Tree Day on Sunday 30 July.
With the help of the community, Council is aiming to plant 3000 local native trees, shrubs and groundcovers to help combat climate change, provide food and shelter for native wildlife and beautify the area.
“National Tree Day is a great community event that gives residents the opportunity to contribute to improving our natural areas,” said Liverpool Mayor Wendy Waller.
“It’s an enjoyable day for the whole family that will have long-lasting benefits for the environment and the community.
“There will be face painting and a native wildlife display for the kids, plus a free barbecue lunch for everyone who takes part.
“I hope to see many local residents coming to along to plant a tree, spend time outdoors with family and friends and enjoy our local parks.”
Council’s National Tree Day event will be on Sunday July 30 at Brownes Farm Reserve, Hoxton Park from 9am-12pm.
Participants are reminded to wear a hat, closed in shoes, long sleeved shirt, trousers and sunscreen and please bring a water bottle and gloves if you have them. Council will provide all tools and refreshments. Call Council on 9821 7788 for more information.
