Gadget freaks, celebrate! Telstra this week launched two of the year’s most anticipated smartphones: the iPhone X and the Google Pixel 2.
Telstra’s GM of Device Experience, Deven Harrison, exclusively took Indian Link through some of the coolest features of both the devices and also talked about the plans Telstra is offering with both.
Launched on 3 November, the iPhone X is the latest, most advanced – and priciest – iteration from Apple. What all does it have to justify the $1,800+ price tag? Well, there’s one very important thing it doesn’t have and that’s the home button. Harrison said this gives more real estate for the screen and more opportunity to explore apps.

The big change in terms of security is the iPhone X’s Face ID feature through which the owner can unlock the phone simply by looking at it. The phone uses infrared to map the contours of the face, so it even works – most of the time – if you shave off your beard, wear sunglasses etc.

The front camera’s portrait mode while clicking a selfie is said to still be in beta, but produces studio-comparable results in standard testing conditions. It produces a nice bokeh effect provided the background is not too far off.

Animojis are exactly that – animated emojis. You can make your selected icon mirror your facial expressions and movements and records your voice. You can then send this animoji as a message.
Apart from this, the iPhone X features a revolutionary new design with a stunning all-screen display, A11 Bionic chip with neural engine for powerful machine learning, augmented reality and immersive 3D gaming experiences, wireless charging capable and Face ID, delivering an innovative and secure new way to unlock, authenticate and pay.

A redesigned rear camera with dual optical image stabilisation includes a new colour filter, deeper pixels and an improved Apple-designed image signal processor.

Portrait mode with Portrait Lighting allowing customers to capture stunning photos and videos. The all-glass front and back on iPhone X features the most durable glass ever in a smartphone in two beautiful finishes, Silver and Space Gray.

Telstra is the exclusive telco partner for Google’s new Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL. Both phones boast an even more impressive camera for effortless and stunning photography, with unlimited online storage for photos taken on your Pixel 2 in Google Photos. The devices are also Telstra Wi-Fi Calling compatible (extending basic voice call coverage over supported Wi-Fi networks to places in a home or apartment when leaving 4G coverage).

This year, Telstra customers receive the Google Home Mini as a gift with purchase with Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL, the compact and mighty new addition to the Google Home family.

Harrison said, “There’s huge excitement surrounding the launch of these new phones and we’re delighted to be able to offer our customers these next-generation smartphones on the country’s best mobile network.”
Both Pixel 2 and iPhone X are available on Telstra’s recently launched Go Mobile Swap Lease, Go Mobile Plus, My Business Lease and My Business Mobile plans.
Harrison said that Telstra’s flagship plan for the iPhone X was a $129 per month Go Mobile Swap Lease offer, through which you can enjoy 60GB of data and pay an additional $10 for handset replacement at the end of 12 months for a fee of $99, provided the phone is in good working order.

Featuring Telstra’s most generous data inclusions yet, the new plans give customers the power to do more on the country’s fastest mobile network (based on national average combined 3G/4G mobile speeds).

To support growing demand for premium, on-demand entertainment, selected Go Mobile Swap Lease and Go Mobile Plus plans also include a 12-month Foxtel Now subscription for up to three Foxtel Now Starter Packs, for a truly customised entertainment experience.
